This seven days Tibetan culture and history tour will take you to major center cities, namely, Lhasa—the heart of Tibetan culture, Gyantse—one of the trade centers between Tibet and India, Shigatse—the second largest city in Tibet. And you can enjoy the local dance and opera in monasteries. Besides, you can explore the seat of Panchen Lama in Shigatse and mysterious Palcho Monastery. Tibet New Year in 2018 will take place at the 16th of February in Solar Calendar. And the whole celebration will last 15 days each year. As being not too many tourists in winter, you can have enough time to experience all the aspects of New Year in Tibet and join in various activities to celebrate New Year in Tibet.

Itinerary

Day 1: Lhasa Arrival

Welcome to visit Lhasa! Your tour guide will greet you at the airport or railway station, and then transfer you to your hotel in Lhasa. The rest of the day is free. It is recommended to have a good rest in your hotel and drink more water to adapt to the change of altitude. If you feel to go out, you can go to the Potala Square where you can take some photos.

Day 2: Lhasa Sightseeing

After breakfast, your tour guide will pick you up to the Potala Palace which once was the seat of the Dalai Lamas and now a museum. It is listed into the World Heritage by the UNESCO in December 1994. Your tour guide will tell you the history of the Potala Palace while you are visiting the murals and climbing hundreds of stairs here.

After lunch, you will visit the Jokhang Temple which is the spiritual center in Tibet. You will find many devoted pilgrims traveling thousands of miles to make pilgrimages around the temple. The Barkhor Street is a traditional local market. You can visit the local bazaar and art workshops.

Day 3: Lhasa Sightseeing

Today, you will visit the famous Gelug Monasteries in Tibet. You will visit the Drepung monastery in the morning. Drepung Monastery once was the largest monasteries in the world and was the seat for over one thousand monks.

In the afternoon, you will visit the Sera Monastery. The biggest attraction in this monastery is the monks’ debate in the afternoon from 3 pm to 5 pm.

Day 4: Lhasa to Gyantse

In the morning, you will drive to Gyantse. On the way, you will take the chance to visit the beautiful scenery of Yamdrok Lake and Karola Glacier. After reaching Gyantse, you will have a rest and then visit the oldest monastery in Tibet—Palchoe and Kubum pagoda. Besides, you can visit the old town in Gyantse.

Day 5: Gyantse to Shigatse

In the morning, you will drive to Shigatse and enjoy the New Year Festival with locals. They are very friendly and will treat you their homemade barley beer. In the afternoon, you can enjoy their singing and dance to celebrate the New Year.

Day 6: Shigatse to Lhasa

After visiting the Tashi Lhunpo in the morning, you will drive back to Lhasa along the friendship way. And the rest time in Lhasa is free.
